The Season of Lent Starts This Wednesday

Posted Feb 14, 10:00 AM

This Wednesday, February 17th begins the Season of Lent. Start the Season of Lent off the right way by going to Church and preparing your heart for the Lenten Season.

Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting and abstinence in the Catholic Church. Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. In addition, all Catholics 14 years old and older must abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all the Fridays of Lent.

Fasting means partaking of only one full meal. Some food (not equaling another full meal) is permitted at breakfast and around midday or in the evening—depending on when a person chooses to eat the main or full meal. Abstinence forbids the use of meat.

A great way to come prepared to Mass is to read and pray over the readings that will be proclaimed at Liturgy. Here is a link to the Scripture Readings

Confessions will be heard in the Church on Ash Wednesday from 9:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. and from 1:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.
