Seizing Opportunity
Posted Jun 5, 01:55 PMThe late Angelo Roncalli, the good Pope John XXIII, architect of Vatican II tells us to “follow the example of the saints by absorbing the vital sap of their virtues and turning it into our own life blood, adapting it to our own individual capacities and particular circumstances.”
Regarding Vatican II, this wonderful man advises: “It is not that the gospel has changed: it is that we have begun to understand it better. Those who have lived as long as I have are enabled to compare different cultures and traditions, and know that the moment has come to discern the signs of the times to seize the opportunity and to look far ahead.”
We must continue to rise to the challenge and be faithful to discerning the signs of the times, looking far ahead, as we embrace other peoples as never before. We are called to be Christ’s light in the world, modeling the beneficient gifts of the Almighty.
We need to meet others where others are in their stage of development, rather than distancing ourselves. We need to confront our fears and prejudices and recognize that there are many paths to God, and He, in His infinite wisdom and mercy, knows the outcome.
Continue to seize opportunities to participate in the rich educational milieu offered here at St. Patrick Catholic Community, become involved in one of the many ministries, and strengthen your resolve to be that light to others.
