Renewal Day A Success!

Pack Up All Your Cares and Woes!
That’s exactly what a large group of lay ministers, counselors, social workers, community workers, and health professionals did on August 19th when they attended a Day of Renewal and Refreshment for Caregivers! Several participants from several community organizations were sent by their supervisor as an acknowledgment of their valued service. That’s the type of commitment to be applauded!
During introductions, it was evident that the day was an essential need. As each one introduced themselves they responded to the question of how they were feeling: “tired and exhausted”; “unappreciated”; “overwhelmed”; “apathetic” were resounding themes, tempered by “loved”, “hopeful”, “looking forward”, and “grateful”.
The retreat team of staff, community leaders, and a retired priest/author facilitated the day using storytelling, music, poetry, reflection, group discussion and sharing.
At days end we accomplished the goal…all said they were refreshed and renewed!
What a great opportunity for other faith community members, community organizations, lay ministers, and parishioners to come together. Strangers quickly became friends and discovered a lot in common. At one point, during an afternoon break, young, and not so young alike, engaged in a lively dance to the music of “Under The Boardwalk”. It was great fun to watch everyone have a grand time getting into the theme of things (ask Joan LaBine and Pat Phillipsen!).
A highlight was learning from a young counselor how she spends her time volunteering as a circus performer! The closing ritual reminded participants that they are “the salt of the earth”, as each learned how to replenish themselves when their “well runs dry”. Staff did a splendid job!
These events are successful because of the commitment of many people…those who promote and pass the word on, those who design, organize, and deliver the message, those who set up and clean up and more. A big “THANK YOU” to all for your hard work and participation!
Watch for excerpts from the material distributed at the conference in our bulletin!
