Keep Sunday Holy!

Posted Oct 15, 07:52 AM

We all lead busy lives, especially if we have children. There are so many things to do and it seems like we are going in so many different directions especially on weekends. For some the easy thing to do is to opt out of going to Sunday mass and justify it that it is okay because we are busy.

If this seems to be the difficulty you are having in your life here is a suggestion. As you are planning your week and everyone in your family’s activities, decide first what mass you are going to go to on Saturday night/Sunday. Revolve your life and your family’s activities around Sunday liturgy rather than revolving Sunday mass around your activities and the kids’ games that weekend.

What you are saying to your family, your children, and others is that Sunday mass comes first. Your relationship with Jesus Christ is the most important thing in your life and from that everything else flows from it. For some this may be a new and radical way of thinking, putting Sunday liturgy first and foremost in your life and in the lives of your children.

What a great way to start off the week for you and your family by coming to mass, giving praise and worship to God, hearing the Word of God proclaimed in the Scripture readings, receiving Jesus in the Eucharist, and being Christ to others at liturgy.

Strengthened by Sunday liturgy we go out to a world shattered by the darkness of sin with the Light of Christ and seek to be Jesus Christ to a waiting world who desperately needs to hear the Good News of our Lord and Savior.
